Theological Training

Mission Statement

The purpose of the Theological Training Ministry is to provide the staff and leadership with sound doctoral teaching through church educational classes. This involves assisting church program leaders in planning, conducting, and evaluating a comprehensive ministry of Christian education in support of the mission and objective of Upper Room Church of God In Christ. Classes are taught by the Pastor, his designated staff of clergy, and the resident theologian.

Ministers In Training

Like the School of the Prophets that was established and overseen by Elijah, the Ministers In Training (MIT) class is designed to introduce students who have articulated a call to ministry to the qualifications and expectations of ordained ministers. This course of study, developed by Supt. Patrick L. Wooden, Sr., provides essential information for leadership development with special emphasis on character and apologetics. One-on-one conversations with students to assess motives and spiritual maturity and meeting attendance criteria may result in students delivering an initial sermon. This course serves as the foundation for students who desire to be ordained; however, candidates must also complete required courses at the Greater North Carolina Jurisdiction COGIC Academy.

This series of classes serves as one of the Continuing Education offerings by the Upper Room Church of God in Christ. The goal is to provide ongoing courses on a variety of topics that will equip students to become better Christians. Past studies have included: How to Study and Apply the Bible, A Walk Through the Scriptures, studies on biblical books (for example, Revelation and 1 Timothy) and monograph discussions (for example, Improving Your Serve, Living Above the Level of Mediocrity, and We Have This Ministry, et al.).
